Pureform Radiology is a boutique provider of community based Diagnostic Imaging services in Calgary and Airdrie. We currently provide X-ray, Ultrasound, Mammography, Bone Mineral Densitometry, Pain Management Injections including Fluoroscopy (Airdrie & Macleod location only) and Ultrasound Guided injections, and Biopsies.

We work with over fourteen Radiologists to provide a range of sub-specialties including: General Imaging, MSK, Intervention, Breast Imaging, Specialty Pediatrics and more.

The Opportunity

Position: Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Location: Various clinics in Calgary and Airdrie. Home base of South Trail clinic available

Employment Type: Full-time, Part-time, Casual

Start Date: June 2024

Schedule: Monday through Saturday shifts (General clinic hours are 8:00 am – 4:00 pm)

Position Overview & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Sonographer Supervisor, the Sonographer is responsible for delivering exceptional care to all our patients in a respectful, compassionate, and welcoming environment. As a Pureform and PureKids Sonographer you will independently perform and communicate the results of diagnostic examinations to the Radiologists. A successful candidate maintains the highest level of medical ethics at all times and is driven to continually improve their level of understanding and knowledge in this field.

Qualifications & Skills

The following requirements must be met by an applicant in order to be considered for the position:

  • Graduate of a recognized formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program
  • Active certification and member in good standing with Sonography Canada with current Professional Liability Insurance
  • Ability to perform a wide range of sonographic exams
  • An experienced technologist who is excited to share their knowledge with the team while learning Pureform protocols
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Exceptional problem solving and communication skills
  • Competency with Windows-based computer programs
  • Breast, MSK, and Pediatric experience an asset
  • Proficiency in English is required. All work is done in English

The Opportunity

This position is a hybrid of scanning and administrative duties. 0.8 - 1.0 FTE

Position Responsibilities

  • New hire mentoring and check-ins
  • Periodic quality control image audits of all sonographers
  • Training Coordinator – leads and arranges the training of Sonographers in additional skillsets
  • Rotation to all locations – sick call, vacation or training coverage
  • Education Distribution – Collect information from sonographers who attend conferences to create documents/PowerPoints to distribute to all Sonographers. Communicating CME opportunities or Ergonomic tips/info
  • Position has potential to develop in each responsibility
  • Work closely with Ultrasound Manager and Radiologists

  • Graduate of a recognized formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program

  • Adaptable and flexible with schedule – may be called to cover sick call at any location or for vacation coverages
  • Competency with Windows-based and Google based programs including but not limited to: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, SharePoint

Through the Alberta Children’s Hospital contract, Maple Leaf Radiology and Pureform Radiology provide opportunities to interpret MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, Nuclear Medicine and X-Ray.

Pureform + Purekids Radiology Clinics serve over 70,000 patients per annum. Pureform is a vibrant place to work, staffed by highly trained professionals. Our four clinics serve patients of all ages and provide a range of DI procedures including: General Ultrasound, X-Ray, Interventional Ultrasound, Biopsies, Mammography, and BMD. Work at our clinics is dynamic and fast paced.

Application Requirements

The following requirements must be met by an applicant in order to be considered for the position:

  • You are or will qualify to Practice Radiology in Alberta
  • Residency in Calgary / Southern Alberta, or an ability to commute for scheduled shifts
  • We will consider blocking shifts together for out of province applicants to facilitate a fly-in fly-out position if so desired
  • Ability to read General Ultrasound and General X-ray
  • Ability to read and report at least 100+ studies per day (mix of modalities)
  • Ability to work well as part of a team. Collegiality amongst Radiologists and technologists is a core part of our workflow
  • Ability to exhibit a confident and caring bedside manner when counseling patients
  • Proficiency in English is required. All work is done in english

The following are additional skills that will be considered an asset when applying:

  • Fellowship training in any of the following areas: Cardiac; Pediatrics; MSK; Breast; Nuclear Medicine
