Don’t forget to turn your clocks back!

November 1, 2014 | By |

Now that Halloween has passed it is time yet again to turn our clocks back one hour.  A friendly reminder to set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed (and a heads up that your “smart” electronic devices will do so while you’re sleeping!)

Officially, at 2AM on Sunday November 2 all clocks jump back one hour and reset at 1AM.  The best part of daylight savings time in the fall? ONE EXTRA HOUR of SLEEP!

See you on Monday (and enjoy your extra hour of sleep!)

Real-Time X-Ray Wait Times

October 17, 2014 | By |

We are really excited to announce our brand new X-Ray Wait Time Tool – designed to provide an estimate of the wait times for walk-in x-ray at each of our clinics.

We knew there had to be a better way to provide our patients with an estimate of walk-in X-Ray wait times, and when we couldn’t find any solution that fit our needs we built it ourselves!

During our regular business hours wait times are updated roughly every 10 minutes. (Actual times to be seen in clinic may vary based on specific procedures or other circumstances).

A friendly reminder In order to ensure that you can get your X-Ray done before the end of the day please arrive at least 30 minutes before closing!

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

September 3, 2014 | By |

The summer of 2014 shall be remembered for the viral nature of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.  It was just a matter of time before a nomination was thrown our way.  Special thanks to Francine on our Patient Care team for the nomination!

Our good friend Brett W. Wilson’s Ice Bucket Challenge has more than 10,000 views at the time of writing; he was generous enough to donate $10 for every share or re-tweet (up to $10,000) for the cause!

Ever wondered what different foods look like visualized by an MRI?

August 22, 2014 | By |

By this point you may have noticed that we’ve been featuring several unique artistic uses of diagnostic imaging on our blog as of late (see our past posts about peering inside ancient objects using x-rays, unusual x-rays, the radiologist selfie, and x-ray GIFs of the human body in motion).

This time around we found MRI technologist Andy Ellison’s blog “Inside Insides”, where he gives us an “under the skin” look at various foods that are all around us.

According to Wikipedia, an MRI (which is short for Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is:

medical imaging technique used in radiology to investigate the anatomy and physiology of the body in both health and disease. MRI scanners use strong magnetic fields and radiowaves to form images of the body. The technique is widely used in hospitals for medical diagnosis, staging of disease and for follow-up without exposure to ionizing radiation.

At Pureform & PureKids Radiology, we don’t perform MRI’s (but we do perform ultrasound, x-ray, mammography, and bone density at all of our clinics).

X-Ray GIFs of the Human Body in Motion

August 19, 2014 | By |

Wow!  We recently stumbled on Dr. Weiss and Cameron Drake’s work where they converted video clips of body parts in motion into looping GIFs.  They were just too good not to share!

You can view the original blog post by Dr. Weiss here!

Just a reminder: the beauty of the human body is absolutely mesmerizing.

Batting for Breast Cancer

August 12, 2014 | By |

According to Alberta Health Services Screening for Life Program; Breast Cancer in Alberta is the second-most common cancer diagnosed in women after skin cancer – 1 in 8 Albertan women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

This past weekend we had the great honour of participating in the Batting Against Breast Cancer Slo-Pitch Tournament.  While our team wasn’t necessarily rooting for 1st place in the competition, we did have a great time raising funds and awareness for breast cancer.

Speaking of Breast Cancer Screening, earlier this year we were featured in the AirdrieLife Magazine, where Sherry Shaw-Froggatt visited us in Airdrie for her mammogram.  We’ve embedded Sherry’s article below.

Canada Day 2014 Celebration!

July 1, 2014 | By |

In celebration of Canada’s birthday, we’re excited to be a part of the annual Airdrie Canada Day parade!  Last year we had a great time and we have even bigger and better things planned for this year!

Swing by our clinic (20-105 Main Street N, Airdrie Alberta) for complimentary coffee, cup cakes, face-painting and balloon animals for the kids.  If you’ve secured your parade route seat early, keep your eyes peeled for us in the parade, handing out cool treats.

Thank you for trusting us to care for your families!

Since we opened Airdrie’s first community-based Diagnostic Imaging clinic in 2009, we have been trusted to perform more than 77,000 unique imaging exams in the Airdrie community alone.  We live, work, and play in the great city of Airdrie and are proud to support local events and charities.

The #WeLoveAirdrie Charitable Hashtag

Each and every time the #WeLoveAirdrie hashtag is used in the month of July, Pureform & PureKids Radiology will donate $1 to support local Airdrie charities and initiatives, up to a maximum of $2,500.

You can post to any of your favorite social media from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and others. Hey, while you’re at it follow us, tweet us, friend us, like us – or just do whatever makes you happy.
